Five questions to ask any supplier
— including us.
You are probably comparing more than one supplier of laboratory reagents. Most of what separates them cannot be seen on a product page, but it can be asked. Here are the five questions worth asking, and our answers to each — so you can hold us to the same standard.
Read the five questionsFive questions, five checkable answers
Each question has a yes-or-no answer that a supplier should be able to show you, not just tell you.
Is every batch independently tested — and by whom?
In-house testing is not independent testing. Ask which external laboratory analysed the batch, which methods were used, and whether identity was confirmed by more than one method.
Can I read the batch report before I order?
A report supplied only after purchase, or only on request, is not the same as one you can check in advance. Ask where the Certificate of Analysis is published and whether the batch number on it matches what will arrive.
Who is the company behind the website?
A trading name is not a legal entity. Ask for the registered company name, company number, VAT number and registered address — and check them on Companies House.
Where is stock held, and when does it ship?
"UK" on a website can mean a UK domain with stock overseas. Ask where the item physically is, which carrier is used, and what the dispatch cut-off actually is.
Are the permitted-use terms written down?
A supplier that says nothing about permitted use, or contradicts its own terms elsewhere on the site, is a supplier whose paperwork will not stand up. Ask to see the written supply terms.
